Traffic Woes

One centimeter for every second, easing the foot of the pedal, and then holding it down again. It’s not an easy thing to do. What if I ease too much and end up going too far? What if I move 5cm when there’s only 2cm of space?

Only two can go at a time. But five more are pushing their way forward, trying to squeeze in any gap they find, and making the whole process slower than usual.

Traffic in the morning, traffic in the afternoon and traffic in the evening. The one thing that can REALLY spoil your day, before it even starts. Everyone loves complaining about the traffic, (yeah I do too!) but what you don’t know, or choose to ignore, is that YOU are the cause for that traffic jam.

When you double, or triple park, when you park illegally, when you stop your car/bus in the middle of the highway to let someone out, when you create your own lane because you don’t want to wait behind seven cars, when you keep going even when the light is red, when you make a three-lane bottle-neck jam a five-lane nightmare; all this and more, are the reason for you and me getting stuck in a jam every day. So don’t complain, because you and I are both guilty.

But, every time I feel my mood getting sour from being stuck in jams, I think of how grateful I am for my Belle. If it weren’t for her, I will be stuck in a smelly and crowded LRT or bus, inhaling five different types of body odour, ignoring the pervert undressing me with his eyes, avoiding the chatty auntie next to me or the over-sized idiot rubbing up against me.

Yes, give me traffic any day. I choose to be stuck in traffic, in my comfortable car, listening to my music, loud. Bliss.

Belle =)
