68th Annual Golden Globe Red Carpet
Don’t you just love awards season? I used to wake up early and skip school just so I could watch the live telecast of all the awards shows such as the Grammy’s, Emmy’s, World Music Awards, MTV Music Awards and of course the Golden Globe Awards. Back when I was younger and had the luxury to skip school and watch TV of course. The adult me however, settles for re runs or just reading about it online when I’m at work. My favourite is the red carpet entrance, that first impression that will make or break you as a celebrity.
Some make the effort, while some can’t be bothered. And some, well, some make the effort to look as horrid as possible. After all, there’s no such thing as bad publicity. Well the 68th Annual Golden Globes just ended and I couldn’t wait to get to work and scour various online portals to see what the stars wore. Some were disappointing but quite a number came out tops. Below are some of the looks that I love, liked and hated. Enjoy!

Well the 68th Annual Golden Globes just ended and I couldn’t wait to get to work and scour various online portals to see what the stars wore. Some were disappointing but quite a number came out tops. Below are some of the looks that I love, liked and hated. Enjoy!
Jennifer Lopez in a white silk chiffon gown by Zuhair Murad. I love this dress, i do, but its a little too bridal for me. But I'll give her an A for effort as she did try to make it all J-LO with a touch of bling bling; the cute little sequined purse and accessories.
Halle Berry is undeniably one of the most gorgeous women ever. She's beautiful, has an amazing body and is a pretty good actress. Unfortunately much can't be said about her fashion choices. This outfit by Nina Ricci for instance. Baaaad choice. It looks like something one should wear on their honeymoon. Wearing a bustier top can be tricky and very hard to pull off on the red carpet and this dress unfortunately falls flat on my list. And the shoes! Common that is the most boring shoes I've ever seen!
Sandra Bullock looks absolutely darling in this dreamy number by Jenny Packham! I just wished she had her hair up instead. With her hair covering her face, it just draws attention away from the dress. And personally, i feel that if your going to wear a one-shoulder dress than emphasis should be on the exposed shoulder.
Growing up i used to think that Nicole Kidman had a pretty good fashion sense when it came to the red carpet, after she stopped sporting her curly and frizzy hair of course. But now, her red-carpet choices while nice, seems a little too safe for me. Like this nothing to shout about custom made Prada gown. Its lovely yet boring.
The star of Black Swan arrived on the red carpet in this lovely dusty pink silk gown by Viktor & Rolf. This dress would have been a no-no for me IF she weren't pregnant. But the lovely cascading center with the over-sized rose at the bust line fitted her perfectly accentuating yet hiding her baby bump at the same time.
I'm not a fan of Angelina Jolie. I think her boring hairstyle needs an update. But her dress on the other hand was absolutely gorgeous! This 1940's inspired emerald green sequined gown is by Versace. The thing with a vintage looking dress like this is one can either carry it off or look completely ridiculous and well Anjelina Jolie certainly did carry it off. Although you can't see it, the dress has a scoop back.
A ball gown at the Golden Globes? Hmm, i don't know. For the Oscars maybe. Ball gowns reminds me off proms and royal balls. But i do love this lovely green strapless gown on Catherine Zeta Jones by Monique Lhuillier. Very glamorous and the colour is amazing on her skin tone.
January Jones in Versace. Tassels for me should remain as trimmings on lampshades, curtains. But don't get me wrong, this 20's looks might have worked if it was shorter with a less tarty looking top. Tassels on a short cocktail dress is a yes but not on a red carpet gown.
Lea Michele looks stunning in this light pink one shoulder Oscar de la Renta gown! The ruffles, the side train, all adds up to the perfect red carpet dress.
Scarlett Johansson's beaded nude gown by Elie Saab is very dreamy and vinta-gey looking. I like it but somehow i feel she should have tried something a little more sexy. The dress plus the hair do makes her look old.
Julianne Moore in Lanvin. Its one of those dresses where you either hate it love it and i for one HATE it. It does nothing for her and the shoes are boring. Ok fine i just can't stand the whole pouf shoulder trend because i think it makes everyone looks ridiculous. Thank god she had her hair up if not the whole package would have looked frumpy.
This beautiful Armani Prive gown on Megan Fox looks lovely but it will also be perfect to wear to a wedding don't you think so? I love the colour and the details but i was hoping for something a little more sexy. Nevertheless she still looks perfect. Perfect dress, hair, makeup...dam you Megan Fox!
You can laugh or you can cry but i will chose to admire Helena Bonham Carter. Yes that's right, i cannot judge her like i normally would with the others because well, she's different. So i once again applaud Helena for this eccentric dress by Vivienne Westwood and also for wearing two mismatched shoes, just for the fun of it.
I love this full skirted chocolate Marchesa gown on Olivia Wilde! It's very prom/ball like but i love how the all over shimmer makes it look so dreamy!
Eva Longoria looks downright somber in this black figure hugging Zac Posen dress. Given her vivacious personality, a more dazzling dress would have been better suited.
Jane Krakowski is glowing in this flattering blue Badgley Mischka dress. The tone accentuates her skin tone and the little slit lace peek-a-boo is just right to liven up the dress.
Gossip girl Leighton Meester's choice of Burberry Prorsum might have a lot of people sitting on the fence. But i for one thought it looked great on her. The young starlet did a wonderful job pulling off the "vintage" look.
As you can tell, the favourite colours for this season was nude, dusty/ pastel pink and dark green. A lot of stars also showed up with intricate beaded details on their dresses. My favourite dress of all is actually a tie between Olivia Wilde's full blown Marchesa gown and Angelina Jolie's sequined green number.
That 70’s Fashion
Raoul has recently launched its Cruise 2011 collection that is heavily inspired by the 70’s. The last two years saw the comeback of the 80’s and early 90’s so it was only a matter of time before they brought back the 70’s.
The collection features a selection of easy and comfy wear apparels with floral designs in a selection of bright and subdued colours. And yes, the collection also includes the wide legged, high waist pants that were all the rage in the 70’s. Take a look at the collection which is already available in Raoul stores nationwide.

Fashion=clothes
Style=you
An ex-editor once chided me for suggesting that our readers should pair their denim mini with knee high boots. Apparently everyone knows that it’s a big fashion no no. I was naive enough to believe her and apologized for writing that. I now know that it was she that got it wrong, wrong for imposing her fashion belief in me instead of giving me the freedom to be creative with my own ideas. See, she belonged to the masses that refer to the all-powerful fashion bible that preaches that fashion and style comes from following what others say. She along with many made the almighty mistake of confusing fashion and style as one.
Fashion is something that pops up every two weeks and fades before you can say “Gucci”! Designers and fashion houses work round the clock to come up with their latest collection for the upcoming season. We see what’s on the runway and can’t wait to get our hands on that collection. But as good as it looks, not everyone can carry off the clothes we see on the runway.
Style is about individuality. It’s when you take a plain white t-shirt and layer it with so many different looks that the end result gets people wondering who your stylist is. You see, a cute top will look good on some people and horrible on others. Some say its how you wear it and the way you carry yourself with confidence that makes it look tasteful.
This whole denim mini and boots thing was pushed far back in my head until recently when I saw a couple of girls in the mall pairing their denim mini with knee high boots and tights. And you know what? I thought it looked pretty good.
In conclusion, stop following and listening to what other people think is right. If you think it looks good on you than that’s all that matters. Because that’s what style is all about, being yourself. Remember, a true fashionista creates her own style.
Fashion fades, only style remains the same.

Listen up nail addicts! OPI has a brand new assortment of colours out in line for Spring/Summer, the Texas Collection for Spring/Summer 2011.
The theme for this collection centres on the state of Texas and its beautiful backdrop and features warm tones from honey and tangerine to dazzling hues of violet and sky blue.

Say hello to Peacocks!
There’s a new store in town and it’s called Peacocks! Hailing from the United Kingdom, Peacocks promises to cater to trendy fashion-seekers with their stylish collection. Although relatively new here in KL, Peacocks has actually more than 125 years of rich heritage. It was founded by Albert Frank Peacock in Warrington, Cheshire in 1884.
The best thing about Peacocks is that they cater to men and children as well! I attended the launch of their first store in Malaysia at Bangsar Village 1, I may have been on leave, but I did not regret it. Because I got shopping vouchers! Ahh it’s so nice to be a writer. =)
“Check out the great selection we have. Gorgeous knits, power coats, graphic tees, trouser suits, plus attention-grabbing accessories are all guaranteed to give your wardrobe the fashionista factor this season, says Mohamed Mustakim Manaf, Managing Director of Global Clothing.
Anyways, the launch went smoothly, not too long and draggy and ended with a fashion show with models displaying Peacocks Autumn/Winter collection. It was really cute watching some of the kids strut around looking excited yet shy. After the fashion show, the media were invited to check out the store and make use of their vouchers.
I was pretty excited looking at all the clothes and shoes on display. And surprisingly the pricing was pretty affordable. You can get almost anything here; clothes, shoes, lingerie, accessories, bags, and um umbrellas for a very reasonable price. After trying on shoes and dresses I finally decided on a blue knit cowl neck dress and some accessories which was part of their Autumn/Winter collection. Although i loved the collection i must say that some of the stuff were not suitable for Malaysian weather. But I did leave feeling very satisfied, mostly because I got to shop. Now I'm looking forward to see what they have in store for Spring/summer.
“This is the time for glamour and layers. From luxurious velvet dresses to fabulous heels, formal waistcoats to military styling and cozy accessories, Peacocks has everything you need to look fabulous,” says Mustakim.
I couldn’t agree more. If you haven’t already been to Peacocks than I strongly recommend that you do. I can’t wait for pay day so I can go back and shop for more =)

OPI Collaborates With Katy Perry
Anyone who knows me knows that I have a love for nail lacquer. I can honestly say I have never ever left the house with bare nails since the moment I left school. I love keeping my nails long and painting them in different colours; mostly really dark shades or something super bright. I’ve only had a French manicure like twice in my life. And when I do have the time I will make the effort to add a little nail art.
Seeing as I have a deep love for nail lacquer, it’s a no brainer that I was extremely excited upon hearing that OPI had collaborated with Katy Perry. The super cool collaboration consist of five hot shades; Teenage dream, Not like the movies, Last Friday night, The one that got away and my favourite, Black shatter, a topcoat that creates a cracked/leopard pattern when applied over dried nails. Honestly, I can’t imagine why this collaboration took so long to come out. We all know how this innovative star is always showing of her creative nail art on the red carpet.
This would be the second time that OPI has got me excited in one year. The first being when they released their Alice in Wonderland collection. Now I wonder if there will be a Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert collection. Now that will be interesting. I cross my fingers in hope that they wouldn’t release their Justin Bieber collection over here though. *gag*
This collection is available in stores now, time to get your nails 'cracking'!

Confessions of a Shopaholic
The urge to spend is getting stronger again. It happens when I’m extremely low on cash with only a week to go before pay day. I walk around thinking of all the things I want to buy. I get to work and surf fashion blogs and drool over shoes, clothes and accessories picking and choosing as if I have all the cash in the world to splurge on that chunky to die for Stuart Weitzman pumps I saw in Her World magazine.
Am I really a shopaholic? A quick check online tells me that a shopaholic is a compulsive shopper who can never resist a bargain. Okay first of all, name me one person who CAN resist a bargain. Only a handful of the masses will fall under this category and that’s only because they probably hate the idea of shopping. I’m pretty sure I’m not a compulsive shopper *goes into deep thought*
Sigh, think what you want but its impossible for me to resist a good bargain. If I had to choose between a good meal and a dress on sale at Dorothy Perkins I would budget myself to have a decent meal so I would have enough left for said dress. Now isn’t that a fine point to ponder? The fact that I can budget instead of starving myself? No?
But is it so wrong to shop? It is my money after all. And I like to think of myself as a responsible shopper. For instance, when I walk past, say Ace Hardware, I subconsciously think of what I can buy or what I need to buy. But than I manage to stop myself when I realised that I do not need anything from a hardware shop. *pats self on the back* But of course it’s a little difficult to practice that when I pass by a clothes or shoe store.
At the moment I do not see why I would have to curb my compulsion to shop. As long as I’m not hurting anyone or causing any harm than I will continue to shop to make myself happier. Retail therapy really does work you know, gives you a natural glow, tones your arm and legs and erm speeds up your metabolism. Better than being a couch potato. Hmm, on the other hand, TV shopping is kind of fun too.
Fashionista in the making???
I think an award should be given to every dude and duchess who makes the effort to put a little thought into what they wear on a daily basis. Waking up at the crack of dawn and prowling through your closet for something stylish to wear takes effort and discipline.
Most of us would rather get an extra half hour of sleep and just put on whatever that doesn’t require any ironing. Heck I’ve been guilty of it many times in my life. I would rather stay in bed even if it’s only for 5 minutes rather than adopt a fashionista discipline and layer my clothes to create a chic look.
But of course I instantly regret it the moment I step out of my apartment. I start chiding myself for not waking up early and doing my hair and makeup and ironing that dress. Laziness. I blame it all on genetics. Ok fine that’s not fair, I think my mom makes more effort to dress up than I do. I’m just plain lazy.
But than there are times when I feel inspired and instead of waking up earlier, I put my outfit together the night before! Complete with accessories, makeup and shoes! *Beams* It’s so much easier to throw everything on in the morning.
Lets face it, putting an outfit together takes a lot of thinking. And it’s simply not possible to expect that amount of brainpower from any normal human being before breakfast. The average human brain only starts functioning around noon and starts to shut down right about 3pm if I’m not mistaken.
So from here on forth, I promise to make the effort to put a little thought into what I wear. After all, I need to put all my shopping to good use instead of letting it sit in my closet collecting dust. So if I’m not going to use all my clothes and shoes than I will not shop anymore. *Gulps* I do tend to get a little dramatic at times.
The Romans Are Here!
It’s impossible not to notice. It’s fashionable. Celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Moss are donning it. What else is there to say? Hate it or love it gladiator shoes are here to stay!
Back in the roman days, Gladiators mainly fought bare foot. In the arena they would don sandals that were made of leather and studded with hobnails. The design and amount of leather used on sandals would indicate the status of a person. Thus, no Roman citizen would be caught walking around bare foot as that would indicate dire poverty.
In the beginning I never quite understood the trend of gladiator shoes. This was before the wave hit Malaysia. I thought it was a bit ‘funny’ looking. But then again, ‘funny’ can also be transformed into fashionable. It all boils down to what you pair it with and of course, having the attitude to strut around in knee high strappy sandals. As we all know, confidence and attitude is the key factor to carrying off an outfit. Then I saw Kate Moss wearing her gladiator shoes. Ok, that’s it; the whole world is going to go crazy over this. Because whatever Kate Moss wears everyone wants. Ok not EVERYONE.
As I didn’t want to be left behind, I went and got myself a pair of black gladiator sandals. At first I was amazed at how comfortable it was. And then I realized that it actually matched most of clothes. I could wear it with skirts, shorts, and dresses and not look trashy. A friend of mine feels that dresses should ONLY be worn with heels. But I beg to differ. I think a pair of gladiator sandals looks great when worn with a dress, or any outfit for that matter. Heels always make the outfit look dressier. Flip flops makes the outfit look sloppy. But a gladiator sandal on the other hand, gives a very edgy and exotic look to any outfit. It can make the outfit look casual and dressy.
And my, what attention it draws. Everywhere I go trains, buses, malls, mamak. Everyone stops and stare’s. Some give me the ‘this girl is psycho’ look, or the ‘I think she doesn’t know how to dress properly’ look. But others look on in awe! Well, good or bad comments, who cares. As long as people take notice. Like they say, there’s no such thing as bad publicity.
