Mediterranean Chick Pea Salad

I’ve promised myself that I will start being healthy again this week so I have been spending a lot of time looking for some yummy recipes online and in cook books. I used to think salads were kind of boring until I found this simple recipe for some yummy Mediterranean Chick Pea salad. It’s my current favourite meal/snack. You can also use this as a side dish. There’s no meat involved so it’s perfect for vegetarians! Take a look!

Here’s what you need:
  • 1 can of chickpeas. Rinse it under the tap and let it drain.
  • ½ small red onion. Slice it nice and thin
  • ½ cucumber. Peel it, get rid of the seeds and chop it nice and thin
  • 1 roasted red or green pepper chopped
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 big lemon, squeezed
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • A pinch of salt

Directions
  • Get a big bowl and mix all the ingredients together well.
  • Put in a sprinkle of parsley if you like.
  • Let it sit for 10 minutes and you’re ready to eat!

You can keep the leftovers in a fridge and eat it cold the next day or heat it up if you like. Alternately you can put a crumble of goat cheese in it, put a small portion in a whole wheat or tortilla wrap to make it a little filling. Bon appétit!

P/S: This dish will pack on less than 200 calories per serving

Comfort food

My favourite comfort food!
I love aglio e olio pasta but I would never order it in a restaurant. Because they charge ridiculously for something so easy and cheap to make! This traditional Italian pasta is my favourite comfort food and it’s super easy to make.  All you need is:

  • Spaghetti (you can also use linguine or fettuccine)
  • 5 cloves of garlic (peeled and chopped)
  • 2 or 3 dried red chilli (chopped)
  • Olive oil
  • Parsley
  • Salt

Directions:

  • Fill a pot with water and add in some salt (like how you normally cook pasta)
  • Once it starts to boil add in the pasta
  • Take a small frying pan and add in some olive oil. This is your sauce. Try not to go overboard. Two or three tablespoons should be enough.
  • Sautee the garlic for awhile then add in the dried chilli. Stir until the garlic turns golden brown then turn the heat of
  • Drain the pasta and taste for salt. This depends on your liking. Some prefer it to be really salty so add in according to what you like
  • Put the pasta back in the pot and add in the garlic, oil and chilli mixture and stir until it’s well mixed.
  • Add a sprinkle of parsley and your ready to eat!

Alternately you can also add in some prawns. Get a handful, peel and devein them than season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Fry it with a little bit of olive oil till it turns brown then add it in to your pasta. Voila!

Gaga over her shoes

Love her or hate her, Lady Gaga has style, when it comes to SHOES and shoes only. (In my opinion of course.)

I will not comment on her clothes, because I haven’t exactly seen her wear any.
(Oxford definition of clothes: items worn to cover the body)

Her style though eclectic and eccentric, has received mix reviews from everyone. I myself am still unsure. I love her songs, I'm scandalized by the lack of material on her body, her music videos, personality and performances bewilders me, but her shoes, her shoes I love!

I know for a fact that I would never have the guts to walk in her shoes, simply because I’m afraid of breaking my ankles. But I would love to try one, while sitting down maybe. (Coward I know.)

Take a look at some of the outrageous shoes by Gaga that I find intriguing.

Thinking of going vegetarian after this?

The famous Alexandra McQueen armadillo heels

I just don't get how she walks in those

The controversial 'penis' heels that were censored off when she wore them on American Idol

Well it's about time she fell!

Farewell sexy, hello there trashy

The trend of wearing underwear/swimwear as stage costumes is increasingly popular with singers strutting around on stage in “costumes” that resembles something they picked out from a kinky lingerie store; each trying to outdo each other by wearing less and less.

But hands down, no competition, Lady Gaga, takes home the prize for baring the most at the recent CDFA After Party, when all she had on was a see-through bodysuit which barely covered the essentials. (Sorry, I don’t want to upload the photo here. I’m a bit of a prude. Go ahead and Google it if you haven’t seen it already.)

But take a look at the photos I have below. Just some of the ones I find ridiculously outrageous.

Beyonce, from beachwear to erm stage wear

Missing something Britney? Could it be your clothes?

Why bother wearing clothes when your Lady Gaga?

Miley Cyrus. I wonder what papa Cyrus thinks of this kinky ensemble

Blame Madonna. She started the whole underwear as outerwear trend

Studded, beaded or colourful, its still underwear!

It's a bird..it's a plane.. it's the launch of the new DC Comic store! (Lame i know)

The largest DC Comic Super Heroes store in Asia
I must confess that I am not a comic/ superhero fan. Push a comic book under my nose and I’ll most probably take a quick glance before chucking it aside. (Although I was addicted to the Doreamon series, if you can call that comic, when I was a kid) But when I heard about the opening of the brand new DC Comic Store in Pavilion KL, I jumped at the chance to go. Because fan or not, I knew it was going to be a “super cool” event.

And it sure was. Superheroes, comic enthusiast, men in tights and a Batmobile! The centre court area of Pavilion KL was filled with fans, guest and media all decked in DC Comic t-shirts. The event was held to launch the movie, Green Lantern, and also to launch the new DC Comic Super Heroes store in Pavilion, which is the largest one in the whole of Asia. The store has life-sized DC Comic characters and an exclusive replica of the Batmobile and the Batpod.

The fashion show was my favourite. Models took to the runway dressed in classic DC Comics t-shirts, shoes, caps, all accessorized with chains, whips, cut-out tights and funky jewellery. During the whole event, actors dressed as the Flash, Batman, Wonder Women, the Green Lantern, and the Joker made their way around the centre court, taking pictures with fans and posing for the media.

30 lucky people walked away with free passes to watch the Green Lantern and two VERY lucky people walked away with tickets to go to New York City. (I should have dropped in more cards, dam!)

There were also performances by Faizal Tahir and Desiree Tan. Judging from the screams, half the fans were there to watch Faizal Tahir, who proceeded to take his sunglasses, shirt and belt off (Superman style) in the middle of his performance, and throwing it to the crowd. (Note: Faizal got into a lot of trouble in 2008 when he removed his shirt during a live performance on 8TV’s fourth anniversary concert.)

So go check out the store. It’s located on the 5th floor of Pavilion KL. Like I said, I’m no fan, but it’s definitely worth a visit.
